Virtual David Smallbone Mid-Career Faculty Consortium

Associate Professor? Wondering about the next steps in your career? At a crossroads in your career? Thinking about seeking an administrative post? Or leading a research centre or taking on leadership roles in the academic community? Join us at the next Virtual David Smallbone Mid-Career Faculty Consortium!

The European Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ECSB) is offering a workshop for faculty who are at a mid-point in their academic career (at least 5 years of academic experience up to recent full professors) and who would appreciate advice and information about different career options after tenure. To remember the important work of the former ECSB President and Fellow of the ECSB David Smallbone for Junior and Mid-Career academics, ECSB renamed the consortium into the “David Smallbone Mid-Career Faculty Consortium”.

This Consortium features a panel of distinguished faculty and will provide a unique opportunity to network and discuss professional challenges, problems, and opportunities facing faculty advancing into their “Associate and early Full Professor years”.

Possible discussion topics can be charting the path to full professor, service to school and profession (internal roles, within one’s institution, and external roles, within one’s academic community or in the larger practitioner community), role of editors, use of sabbaticals, leadership in professional organizations, changing institutions, executive education, conference organization, local versus global reputation building, administrative roles, working with doctoral students, launching a new or reorienting your research focus, and balancing mid-career demands. Informal presentations will be followed by Q&As and discussions.

When?

This workshop will take place on November 17 2020, prior to the start of the Virtual RENT Conference.

How?

To ensure this Consortium is an effective exchange forum, we wish to limit registration to 10 participants. • 4. Brief Letter of Interest (sessions goals; the topics that are suggested by registered participants will serve to invite the most relevant panelists and to organize the round tables)

A one year ECSB membership fee is charged for participation in this workshop. Other benefits which result from becoming an ECSB member can be found at https://ecsb.org/membership-benefits/. Among other relevant ECSB Career Development offers for Mid-Career Faculty are the ECSB Career Mentoring Programme and a Mid-Career Track. Participation in the Virtual RENT Conference is highly advised, but not compulsory. Please note that you become an ECSB member for one year by registering to the Virtual RENT conference. No fees will thus apply to this Consortium in that case.
